DENR CENRO Cadiz City Celebrated World Wetlands Day

World Wetlands Day is celebrated internationally each year on February 2, 2016. It marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance in Ramsar, Iran on February 2, 1971. The theme for World Wetlands Day 2016 is Wetlands for our future: sustainable livelihoods. CENRO Cadiz City believed that Wetlands play an important role in the processes that keep our environment healthy and productive. In support of  this cause, CENRO Cadiz City initiated an activity last February 10, 2016 that encouraged eight (8) coastal LGUs. These activities composed of: hanging of tarpaulin to draw public awareness in support of the celebration; mangrove planting at Brgy. Tortosa, Manapla and Coastal Clean-up at Ceferina Beach Resort, Victorias City, Negros Occidental. Activities undertaken were spearheaded by CENRO Cadiz City with the partnership of Tortosa Pumpboat Association (POs) within the area and the contractor for National Greening Program. Wastes  collected by the personnel and POs of CENRO Cadiz City were estimated to weigh more or less thirty-one (31) kilogram (mostly plastic wrapper and worn-out fishing gears). Five hundred (500) Pagatpat seedlings were planted by the group. The aforementioned activity served as a chance to break the monotony of daily office routine that develop camaraderie among personnel and a deep understanding of the environment's significance.
